Aramis JHL Perfume

Aramis JHL perfume was initially launched in 1982 by Aramis as a oriental fragrance for men.  The perfume was created by Estée Lauder for her husband Joseph Harold Lauder, executive chairman and co-founder of Estée Lauder Inc, whose initial is JHL.  Joseph Harold Lauder passed away on 15 January 1983 while visiting the East Side home of a son.

The perfume opens with a fresh citrus smell of Aldehydes, Orange, Allspice, Pimento, Fruity Notes, Bergamot and Lemon as its top notes and settle into a retro masculine scent of Carnation, Fir, Cinnamon, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang and Rose.  The whole fragrance is re-affirmed as a very retro and masculine fragrance that is worth collecting with base notes of Labdanum, Sandalwood, Amber, Patchouli, Musk, Benzoin and Vanilla.

Aramis New West Perfume

Aramis launched New West for Her perfume in 1990, as a floral green fragrance for women under famous perfumer Yves Tanguy.  The fragrance with its fresh, vibrant and colorful scents is most suitable for young lady.  It is a very floral and fruity fragrance with the watermelon notes dominating the foreground and a wet oceanic feel in the background and supported by the mossy and herbal musk base.

The perfume has a very good sillage and is perfect for office or causal wear.   The fragrance comes in top notes of Plum, Violet, Peach, Bergamot and Watermelon, middle notes of Cyclamen, Carnation, Lily, Mint, Galbanum, Jasmine, Hiacynth, Rose and Pine Tree Needles, and base notes of Leather, Amber, Musk, Oakmoss and Cedar.

Bergdorf Goodman has the privilege to be the first to unveil Aramis The Gentleman’s Collection in September 2009.  Selected stores worldwide will only be getting the stocks in October 2009.  However, the Gentleman’s Collection that is launched in US will only contain six of the perfumes without Aramis Life and Aramis Always.  The full collection of eight perfumes will only be launched internationally.

I think Bright Crystal is the only Versace I could wear. The bottle is beautiful with a large crystal shaped cap and a pink perfume inside. This scent begins with very fresh top-notes…then dries down to a warming powdery amber/woodsy base that wears close to the skin. It smells so clean, refreshing, light, sweet, and mellow. I think the rose is dominant. It has that same fresh warm scent that you would get after having a bubble bath. Soapy yes, but also a comforting scent that I like a lot. The only disappointment i think is the staying power. If you want to wear this fragrance, you will need to reapply often.

However through the years, the method used in the manufacturing of perfumes has progressed with technology and because of this in 1945 a new Olifactive Families classification of the perfumes is introduced.

1. Bright Floral – is a combination of the traditional single floral and floral bouquet families.
2. Green -  is a lighter and more modern represention of the traditional Chypre.
3. Acquatic, Oceanic or Ozonic – is the newest classification introduced that represent the modern scents of androgynous perfumes.
4. Citrus – is one fo the oldest classification used till today that often represent the freshness in a perfume through its fresh and non-tenacity citrus scents.
5. Fruity – used to describe perfumes that contain fruits other than those specified under the citrus family.  Normally fragrance that is fruity in nature is often perceive as a sweet scent.
6. Gourmand – describes scents like vanilla, tonka beans, etc that portray an edible like scents.

Cologne having about 4% of essential oil versus perfume having 40% essential oil in its content, cologne is at least 50% cheaper than perfume and in some cases; the price of cologne can be as low as 5 – 10% the price of a perfume. In order to market such a high price perfume, designer of perfume and cologne have to design bottle that are more attractive and of better quality to attract consumer to their products. Perfumes are normally house in better quality bottle such as colored glass or crystal, this is to protect the precious essence within from the sunlight and heat source that may deteriorate through exposure. And at the same time with a more attractive and expensive looking bottle, the perfume will appeal more to people who are looking for style and elegance in their search for the perfect fragrance. Cologne on the other hand are normally found housed in the cheaper glass bottle that are more prone to sunlight exposure and also due to their high concentration of alcohol, the cheaper cologne are found to evaporate and turned color faster in their bottle.

When designing a perfume or cologne, perfumery is not able to design a fragrance that can appeal to all. Therefore, there is still a thin line drawn across fragrances designed for women and for men. In order to appeal to the feminine crowds, feminine fragrances are normally stronger and lady like that are often floral or fruity in nature. The original Aramis scent, named Aramis Classic, which was launched in 1964, will remain unchanged as an independent product of the wardrobe. Aramis Classic continues to rank in the top 20 in the U.S., said Diana Espino, vice president and general manager for the Aramis brand, and number 17 globally.

Bergdorf Goodman will be the first to unveil the collection beginning in September, before selected stores worldwide are slated to get the line in October. Each fragrance in the Aramis Gentleman's Collection is an eau de toilette that is packed in a 100ml bottle and is expected to retail at $48.

Elizabeth Aden will be launching a new fragrance under its 5th Avenue feminine Fragrances this fall.  The 5th Avenue Style, a fruity-floral-oriental fragrance, was created by famous perfumery Givaudan’s Yann Vasnier.

Yann Vasnier was quoted as saying

“When creating the 5th Avenue Style, I was inspired to capture a new energy… to entice the wearer with the experience of being on the 5th Avenue today… … This fragrance is for a women … able to capture her own style, shopping for distinct pieces that make her feel special, chic and apart from the crowd.”  (via moodiereport)

Raspberry, marigold and Italian bergamot lie in a top together with sexy, pink pepper. A heart adds petals of peony, plum, peach, New York apple blossom and white chocolate truffle. A base incorporates vanilla, moss and white musk.

Oak moss is a commercial name for several kinds of mosses and lichen.  For perfume, the most used is concrete, resin, and resinoid of oak moss, that possesses a heavy earthly odor.  They give a natural tone to a perfume composition.

This new fruity-floral-oriental fragrance for women is a flanker to the original’s Elizabeth Arden 1996 5th Avenue that comes after the 2005’s 5th Avenue After Five Fragrance.  The fragrance bottle is a reinterpretation of the original 5th Avenue bottle, inscribed with bold bronze graphics.  The outer box portray a matching bronze/copper color scheme.

The fragrance that will be available from September 2009 onwards, comes in a 75 and 125 ml Eau de Parfum spray. They are priced domestically at US$46 and US$56 respectively.
